Delhi - India's capital has always been the seat of power since 13th century due to its strategic location. Delhi has witnessed the trail of rulers and has been under Mughals and British Raj for a long period. Their influences are still quite clear in its structures and buildings. The third largest city of India is divided into Old & New Delhi. Old Delhi was an amalgamation of seven cities, the seventh being the Mughal city - Shahjahnabad. The major tourist attractions of the city are Qutub Minar, which was built in 1199 and once the tallest structure of the city, it rises to a height of 72.5 metres from a base of 14.32 metres; Humayun's Tomb dating back to 1564, the mausoleum of Mughal emperor Humayun is one fine example of a garden Tomb, the magnificent Red Fort that holds its head high since it was build in 17th century and Jama Mosque, which is believed to be the largest mosque in India. Srinagar - The Hari Parbat Fort crowning the Sharika hill was constructed in the 18th century by Atta Mohammed Khan but the walls that surround the fort were built much earlier, during Akbar's regime. It is believed that the original temple atop the Shankaracharya hill have been built by Ashoka's son Jaluka around 200 BC, on the site of the famous Takht-I-Suleiman or the throne of Solomon. The present temple, however, was built during the reign of Jehangir. Mughal Gardens, the gardens of Chashma Shahi, Nishat and Shalimar laid out around the Dal Lake, are perfect examples of the Mughal style of garden; terraced lawns, evergreen cypresses, flowering bushes and fruit trees and a channel of sportive water taking a break into a pool spouting fountains. Nishat, "The Garden of Bliss" built on the Dal Lake, by Empress Noorjehan's brother Asaf Khan, is laid over seven terraces. Emperor Jehangir laid Shalimar, "The Graden of Love". Its waterfalls designed over three terraces mark Chashma Shahi, "The Royal Spring" garden built by Emperor Shah Jehan in 1632.
Afternoon enjoy shikara ride in Dal Lake & overnight.

Day 05: Srinagar - Gulmarg - Srinagar 104 KM

Gulmarg - 52 km west of Srinagar, lays Gulmarg. At the end of the ascending, twisting road through a pine forest, the gently sloping downs of Gulmarg open out suddenly, almost miraculously before one's eyes. White peaks of snow frame the unbroken green of this cosmic meadow. Gulmarg, at an altitude of 2730 metres is equally luring in winters when the dawns beckon the skiers, and bid farewell to the golfers who had thronged to it through the summers. About 6 km up is another perfect llittle meadow, Khilanmarg, which gives a picture-perfect view of the bare awesome face of the mountain peak of Nanga Parbat (8125 metres) on a clear day.
